Tàpies, a king.

Shapes of the human body
This gallery is working directly with Tàpies family and is mainly showing artworks from the artist’s later period. In the several canvases across the exhibition, some of them quite large, you can see the artist’s trademark features: the colour pallet, abundant in browns, grays and blacks, the collages, using newspaper, sand and hair, the writings and scribblings, and his abstract style that occasionally veers into the figurative, where you can tell the sexually charged shapes of the human body, male and female.
Tàpies, who was an undisputed part of the artistic framework of the fifties and sixties in Europe and New York, has artworks in the most important art collections; public and private: Tate, UK; MoMA, New York; Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, Rome; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; and Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
The next opportunity to see his art will be next May, at the Fortuny Palace of Venice, at the same time of the Bienale and then in June at the and The National Museum of Art of Catalunya.
